Arundel Castle revives Normans

STORMING Normans are heading to Arundel Castle over the half-term holiday.

Living history group Raven Tor will be taking castle visitors back to 1189 at the beginning of Richard the Lionheart’s reign.

People will witness how life might have evolved in one of England’s most awe-inspiring walled fortresses when Christian kings and lords of northern Europe called their liegemen together to undertake the Third Crusade.

Raven Tor will be recreating scenes of everyday life, including crafts and maintenance of weaponry such as swords and shields, preparing for battle and combat demonstrations in the Keep – the oldest part of the castle.

Visitors will be able to ask the “Normans” what it was like 900 years ago.

The Norman Knights event is on Wednesday and Thursday, October 26/27.
