Arundel Festival: Jailhouse a key venue

Same Time Next Year by Bernard Slade is at the Jailhouse on Sunday, August 21, Monday, August 22 and Thursday, August 24 at 7.30-9.30pm (tickets £8, £6).

Considered one of the most popular romantic comedies of the century, it ran for four years on Broadway.

The tale of a love affair between two people who rendez-vous once a year, it offers 25 years of manners, morals and attitudes, hilariously mirrored by the lovers.

Also playing is My Mother Was An Alien: Is That Why I’m Gay? by Nigel Fairs (writer of In Conversation With An Acid Bath Murderer) on Tuesday, August 23; Thursday, August 25 and Sunday, August 28 at 7.30-8.45pm (£8, £6).

The piece offers a sometimes-hilarious, sometimes-tragic story about an incapable mother, her emotionally-closed son and his anoraked boyfriend. Relationship-wise, the characters are all heading for disaster with neat twists and shocks.

Also during the Festival, the Jailhouse is hosting A Little Of What You Fancy by The Allsorts, an old-time Victorian music revue on Saturday, August 27 at 7.30pm (£10, £8).

Organisers are promising a night of fun, frivolity and fabulous costumes with ample opportunity to sing along. Fully licensed bar. Prizes for best Victorian costume.

Another Festival show at the venue is the Jailhouse Screamers comedy night (Friday, August 26, 7.30 till 11pm, £10, £5).

With Ged Butcher as compere, the night features Jo Public, Chris Pacey, Joe Foster, Andy Field, Sam Furniss and Clantessential

The Jailhouse’s Arundel Ghost Experience will every day during the Festival from noon till 6pm, every half hour (£5, £4, £3).
