Arundel school judged as good outstanding features by Ofsted inspectors

A GOOD school with some outstanding features was the description given by Ofsted inspectors after their visit to an Arundel school.

Every area marked by inspectors at St Philip's Catholic Primary School was judged as good or outstanding.

Inspectors who visited in May, gave credit to the school for maintaining standards despite significant changes in staffing.

The report said: "This is a good school. It has some outstanding features, principal among which are the leadership of the headteacher, welfare in the early years foundation stage, pupils' personal development and well-being and the school's pastoral care.

"The headteacher has led the school with a very clear vision of how improvements could be made."

Inspectors gave only two recommendations. One was to develop tracking systems to show the progress pupils make through the school; the other was to ensure pupils have a clear understanding of what life is like in a multi-cultural society.

Headteacher Margaret Fraher said: "We are delighted the school is judged to be good with some outstanding features. It shows progress since our last inspection three years ago.

"It confirmed the school's self-evaluation and recognises we have kept focused on what we needed to do, while successfully undertaking five phases of building development to further improve our learning environment."

Inspectors said they thought pupils thoroughly enjoyed their time at school, had good attitudes to work and behaved well in class. They also praised the strong relationships between pupils and staff.
