Arun's big decision on Asda store today

Between 20 and 25 councillors turned up for a private discussion about the Asda plans for a Bognor Regis store.

The 90-minute session took place at Arun District Office's offices in Littlehampton on Monday, December 15.

Those present included both members of the council's development control committee, who will decide the application this evening (Thursday, December 18), and non-members.

Arun's Bognor regeneration co-ordinator Richard McMann was among the council officers present.

The session featured a discussion about the recommended refusal which the committee's members will have to decide whether or not to accept.

Ian Sumnall, Arun's chief executive, said outside the session there were four issues which councillors had to consider when they voted today.

They were the impact of the proposed store on Bognor town centre; the suitability of the proposed land at Oldlands Farm; the viability of the office block, and Asda's need to search for any other suitable site.
