Penhurst retreat Centre are holding an open day on September 7. There will be A display of local artwork Stalls with local, hand-made & fairtrade goods Music from the Bodium Concert Band & Jill Hoffmann, cake and tea from 3pm, a thanksgiving Service at 4pm with an address from Gareth Tuckwell on ‘Trusting God when in a difficult place’. The gate opens at 12 noon. You are welcome to take a picnic and eat it in the grounds.

The East Sussex County Council Mobile Library service will next be in Ashburnham (by the chapel) on Thursday September 12 & 26, 9.50am - 10.10am.

Ashburnham and Penhurst WI are next meeting on Monday September 16, when local historian Kevin Gordon will be telling them the fascinating history of Tide Mills, the village near Seaford which was finally abandoned in 1939. The competition is for a jar of home- made bramble jelly. All meetings are at 7.30pm in the Village Hall and include refreshments and time for chat. Visitors and new members are always

welcome.

The net Village Lunch is on September 18 at Ashburnham Village Hall. Lunch is cooked every month for any older residents in our villages who would like a bit of company and a delicious meal. The Evening Book Group next meets on Tuesday September 24 at 8pm at Ashburnham Place. They will be handing out ‘The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid’ by Bill Bryson, a funny memoir of his childhood and 1950s America. Harvest Barn Dance Saturday October 5, 7.30pm at Agmerhurst Farm.

This year Ashburnham Church are putting on a fundraiser to celebrate Harvest in our villages. Local favourites, Catsfield Steamers, will help all to dosey doe the night away and Pig and Porter will supply the BBQ and bar, ably supported by gastronomical delights from the church community and other locals. The barn will be spick and span and ready for some serious (and not so serious!) dancing. All profits will go to the New Village Hall fund and a large attendance is hoped for. If you are intending to go, then please buy a ticket early. There will be a raffle and if you are able to donate a prize for this then please let Richard and Storm know on the number below.
