BOOK GROUPS: October’s book is The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne. Nine year old Bruno lives outside the fence of a Nazi concentration camp and befriends Shmuel, a boy in ‘striped pyjamas’ on the other side of the fence. The novel traces Bruno’s gradual journey from blissful ignorance to painful knowledge and explores the abuse of power by adults and the powerlessness of children. The evening book group will meet at 8pm on Tuesday, October 27 at Ashburnham Place. The afternoon book group will meet at Brown Bread Street Cottage at 2pm on Friday, October 30. If you would like to borrow the book or would like further information about either group, please contact Nicole on 894208 or Nicky on 892474.
