QUIZ NIGHT: A Quiz Night is being held on Saturday, October 17 at Ashburnham Village Hall, 7 p.m. The cost is £10 per person to include a supper and entry into the raffle. COFFEE MORNING: The next Coffee Morning is on Monday, October 19 in the Church Hall, Ashburnham Place 10.30 a.m. - 12 p.m. You are welcome to go along for a good friendly chat.

WI: Ashburnham & Penhurst WI are next meeting on Monday, October 19, 7.30 p.m. at Ashburnham Village Hall. Following their AGM, they will be holding a Beetle Drive (speed dating for insets!). Visitors and new members are always welcome.

VILLAGE LUNCH: The next Village Lunch is on October 21, at Ashburnham Village Hall, 12.30 p.m. Lunch is cooked every month for any older residents in the villages who would like a bit of company and a delicious meal. Transport can be arranged if needed. For more information or to book a place, give Janet a ring on 01424 89231.

PARISH COUNCIL: The next Ninfield and Penhurst Parish Council meeting will take place on October 21, 7.30 p.m. at Ashburnham Sports Pavilion. All residents of both villages are welcome to attend.

CHAPEL COFFEE MORNING: Ashburnham Chapel are holding a coffee morning on October 26 10.30 a.m. - 12 p.m. All are welcome to join them.

GARDENING CLUB: Ashburnham and Penhurst Gardening Club are next meeting on Monday, October 26, 7.30 p.m. in Ashburnham Church Hall. They will begin with their Annual General Meeting and then will follow with a bring-and-share home grown supper and quiz. There will be a chance to sign up for membership for the coming year.

BOOK GROUPS: October’s book is “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” by John Boyne. 9 year old Bruno lives outside the fence of a nazi concentration camp and befriends Shmuel, a boy in ‘striped pyjamas’ on the other side of the fence. The novel traces Bruno’s gradual journey from blissful ignorance to painful knowledge and explores the abuse of power by adults and the powerlessness of children. The evening book group will meet at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27 at Ashburnham Place. The afternoon book group will meet at Brown Bread Street Cottage at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 30. If you would like to borrow the book or would like further information about either group, please contact Nicole on 894208 or Nicky on 892474.

MI: November marks a favourite night in the MI calendar - Brewery Trip Night! Their ‘pilgrimage’ to Harvey’s at Lewes, followed by a meal, is on November 2. Due to limited places left, you are urged to book now! Those of a female persuasion are also invited, with the condition they wear false mustaches.
