Afternoon Book Group: The afternoon book group are meeting today, October 31, 2pm. October’s book is “The Septembers of Shiraz” by Dalia Sofer. Set in the aftermath of the Iranian revolution, it chronicles the separate attempts of a father, mother, son and daughter to face incalculable dangers and find safety. Coffee Morning: The next Coffee Morning is on Monday, November 3 & 17 in the Church Hall, Ashburnham Place 10.30 a.m. - 12 p.m. You are welcome to go along for a good friendly chat.

Mobile Library: The East Sussex County Council Mobile Library service will next be in Ashburnham (by the chapel) on Thursday, November 6 & 20, 9.50 a.m. - 10.10 a.m.

Village Bonfire: The annual village bonfire will take place on November 7 at Ashburnham Sports Field. The fire will be lit at 7 p.m., shortly followed by fireworks. The costs are £4/adult, £2/child to include hotdogs, soup and for the adults only, mulled wine.

Remembrance Day Service: There will be a Remembrance Day service at the War Memorial on November 9, 10.55 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

2m@1: 2m@1 are next meeting on Monday, November 10, at the Church Hall. This month they will have a talk entitled ‘Tale from the Potting Shed‘ with Jim Payne. Everyone is welcome to join them.

WI: Ashburnham & Penhurst WI are meeting on Monday, November 17, 7.30 p.m. at the Village Hall. This month you can learn how to create some amazing (really amazing!) floral decorations for Christmas, with demonstrations from Sandra Shoobridge. No need to book – just go along! Visitors and new members are always welcome.

Village Lunch: The next Village Lunch is on November 19 at Ashburnham Village Hall, 12.30 p.m. Lunch is cooked every month for any older residents in the villages who would like a bit of company and a delicious meal. Chapel Coffee Morning: Ashburnham Chapel are holding a coffee morning on November 24, 10.30 a.m. - 12 p.m. All are welcome to join them.

Gardening Club: The Ashburnham and Penhurst Gardening Club are next meeting on November 24, 7.30 p.m. This month they will be holding their AGM, followed by Jim Payne with “Tales from the Potting Shed’. P.A.N.T.S: Penhurst and Ashburnham New Theatrical Society (P.A.N.T.S.) presents Sleeping Beauty at Ashburnham Cillage Hall. Performances will be on: Thursday November 27, Friday November 28 and Saturday November 29 at 7.30 p.m. There will also be an afternoon performance on the Saturday at 2.30 p.m. Tickets go on sale on November 1 costing £7/adult, £3/child. It’s the story of the inhabitants of Himmel Street, especially of nine year old Liesel living with a foster family, who steals books.
