Ashburnham

The Community First Responder (CFR) for the Ambulance service, (SECAmb), have recently recruited Sharon Spicer of Ashburnham, who is also now qualified and responding. However, two more recruits are required so that Ashburnham CFRs can become an independent unit from the Bexhill Group (four are needed to be separate).

Prospective CFRs are invited to contact Tony Smith to find out more regarding the training and joining their voluntary efforts to save local lives. Applicants must have their own car, have a clean CRB. The training is all free with just one weekend followed by one day revision and exam on the second weekend. Most applicants pass! The Afternoon Book Group’s May gathering is on May 23, 2 p.m. During May they will be reading ‘Boy A’, by Jonathan Trigell. The story is about a troubled 24 year old ex-offender. This book won the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize, the Waverton Good Read Prize and the World Book Day ‘Books to talk about‘ Prize. Ashburnham Chapel are holding a coffee morning on May 26, 10.30a.m-12p.m. All are welcome to join them.

Ashburnham Chapel is celebrating 50 years at Ponts Green this year. On June 1, they are holding a 50th Anniversary Tea, 5 p.m. at the Chapel, followed by Songs of Praise. All are welcome to join the Chapel in their celebrations.

2m@1 are meeting on June 9, 1 p.m. at Ashburnham Church Hall. Susie Marriott will give a talk entitled ‘The weak and foolish things’. Everyone is welcome to join the group.

Ashburnham Local History Group are meeting on June 9, 7 p.m.. This month they will be meeting near Herstmonceux Parish Church for a short footpath walk of approx 1.5 km. They will look at the 15th Century Estate of a royal treasurer including deer park, castle and family tombs, plus both earlier and later historic features.

A Coffee Morning is to be held at Ashburnham Sports Pavilion on Saturday, June 14, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. There will be cakes and produce for sale too! All proceeds are in aid of the new village hall.

Ashburnham & Penhurst WI are meeting on Monday, June 17, 7.30pm at the Sports Pavillion. They will be celebrating their 7th birthday with a party! Refreshments for the evening are bring and share party food. WI members free, visitors £2. No need to book – just go along!

The next Village Lunch is on June 18, at Ashburnham Village Hall, 12.30p.m. Lunch is cooked every month for any older residents in the villages who would like a bit of company and a delicious meal.
