Brownbread Horse Rescue Centre are holding an open day on May 18, 10.30 a.m. - 4 p.m. The open day will be opened by Lord Brett MacLean of Hastings with something for everyone including: Pony rides, boot and table sale, children’s area with bouncy castles, tack and riding gear, refreshments and much, much more. There will also be a dog show with entries from 11 a.m., £1 per class. The classes are: Puppy 6-12 months, yearling 12-18 months, sporting, Non-sporting and open. Ashburnham & Penhurst WI are meeting on Monday, May 19, 7.30pm at the Village Hall. They are planning a craft evening with a difference! The evening will include refreshments. WI members free, visitors £2. No need to book – just go along!

The next Village Lunch is on May 21, at Ashburnham Village Hall, 12.30p.m. Lunch is cooked every month for any older residents in the villages who would like a bit of company and a delicious meal. The East Sussex County Council Mobile Library service will next be in Ashburnham (by the chapel) on Thursday, May 22, 9.50a.m. - 10.10a.m.

The Afternoon Book Group’s May gathering is on May 23, 2p.m. During May they will be reading ‘Boy A’, by Jonathan Trigell. The story is about a troubled 24 year old ex-offender. This book won the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize, the Waverton Good Read Prize and the World Book Day ‘Books to talk about‘ Prize. Ashburnham Chapel is celebrating 50 years at Ponts Green this year. On June 1, they are holding a 50th Anniversary Tea, 5 p.m. at the Chapel, followed by Songs of Praise. All are welcome to join the Chapel in their celebrations.
