Over the period of March 1-3, a number of small freshly planted trees were removed from the Penhurst area. Serial number 0675 03/03/13 refers. Our PCSO Daryl Holter has also advised that there has been some reports of doorbell ringers late at night in the Ashburnham area over the last few weeks. If anyone has seen or heard anything on any of these instances, please can you call Daryl by calling 101.

The church will once again be holding a breakfast and short service in Ashburnham Village Hall on Mothers’ Day - Sunday March 10, 10am. There will be a choice of full English or Continental breakfast, and then Renee Durndell will conduct a special Mothering Sunday Family Service. Book your place now by calling Wendy on 848949.

2m@1 (2nd Monday of the month @ 1 O’clock), are meeting on March 11, discussing “Care for the Carers”.

The next MI meeting is at the Ash Tree Inn, March 12. They have a Scalextric night coming up soon. If you are interested in this event, please contact Richard on 893139.

Film Club is March 13, showing ‘‘The Big Sleep’. Doors open at 7.45pm and the programme will start at 8.15pm. The price does include a glass of wine at every screening!

The East Sussex County Council Mobile Library service will next be in Ashburnham (by the chapel) on Thursday March 14 & 28, 9.50am - 10.10am.

There will be a Thanksgiving Service in memory of Mrs Marlis Bickersteth (or as many of us knew her “Mrs John”) on March 14, 2pm at St Peter’s, Ashburnham. One of my last memories of Marlis was her standing in my mum’s kitchen at my Grandpa’s funeral stirring her homemade soup, some 15 years ago. Richard, Bob and Caroline invite those who know Marlis to join them in celebrating her life and share your memories with them.

Ashburnham & Penhurst WI are meeting on Monday March 18 at the Village Hall, 7.30pm. This month, Rhod Jones will be giving them a talk into the history of the Oxo Cube. This months competition is a homemade Easter Card.

There is a Jumble Sale on March 23, 10am at Ashburnham Village Hall. With Bric a brac, jumble, books and toys, produce and refreshments. Entrance is 50p. All profits going towards the village hall. Any jumble donations, please ring 892674.

The Chapel are holding an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday March 30 at the Chapel, 3pm. This will be followed by games and a Bring and Share tea.
