At the Going Down of the Sun and in the Morning ...

YOUNG and old culminated in Alexandra Park on Sunday(14TH) to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom.

More than 300 ex-servicemen, political figures and members of the public gathered in the crisp morning sunshine for the Remembrance Day service for those who fought and died in conflict.

The day's commemorations began with the Mayoral Parade, led by the Mayor herself, Pam Brown, from the Town Hall to the service by the war memorial in the park.

The Blue Stars Marching Band accompanied the marchers along Queens Road as far as Safeways where the Army Training Corp Band took the lead for the remainder of the march.

Stuart Green, chairman of the Joint Council of Ex-Service Associations who organised the Mayor's Parade, said: "The day went very well indeed and there was a really good turn out. We were extremely pleased with how it all went. During the service in the park the whole of the bank at the back was full of people."

The commemorations continued into the evening with entertainment, provided by Helenswood School, and a service at the White Rock Theatre accompanied by the Melodian Choir.
