Australia Day tops off a good report for nursery

A CHILDCARE centre had double cause for celebration after news of a positive OFSTED report arrived in the same week as children celebrated Australia Day.

Rainbow Childcare Centre, in Ninfield Road, achieved an overall Good status for its inspection in December, with children's positive contributions, achievement and enjoyment and development of skills for the future all meriting Outstanding.

The report goes on to identify strong creative development of the 77 youngsters currently enroled in the East Sussex County Council (ESCC) run nursery, saying: "All children have immense fun outside with excellent support from the staff, with activities and resources available for children's own choices or planned to support their learning."

Australia Day, where children dressed up in costumes, learned about Aboriginal music and learned to play didgeridoos demonstrated the nursery's focus on learning through play.

Outside, building brick towers, water painting and playing in the den built by the children give the from birth to five-year-olds plenty of material to play with.

The report praised the nursery's relationship with parents, singling out their habit of inviting parents to speak and read about their own background or culture, but said staff needed to keep parents better informed of nursery practices.

The 'excellent support' and 'effective planning' of the staff team was also mentioned.
