Austrian music for mayor

TOWN Hall officials were given a taste of Austrian music recently, courtesy of student guests.

Pupils from the Higher Technical and Vocational Training College, in Graz, gave the performance as a thank you for their visit to Rother District Council's centre of operations.

Pieces were the Bozner Bergsteiger Marsch and Fuchsgraben Polka.

Town Mayor Cllr Patrick Douart, speaking to students in the council chamber, gave a talk on the role and responsibilities of his office.

And Rother chief executive Derek Stevens introduced an overview of local government in the UK, relating it to the Austrian model.

Students were then introduced to pictures of past mayors and district chairman, and shown some of the silver kept safely under lock and key in the building.

Rother then laid on refreshments for the guests.
