Avenue closed for tree work

Lime Tree Avenue in Uckfield is closed for a week to allow 27 trees to be pollarded.

Secretary of Lime Aid Mike Benians said it was good news that private householders had taken the initiative to work together and employ a tree surgeon.

Their decision followed on from action by Uckfield Community Technology College and East Sussex County Council to get trees on the east side pollarded after being prompted by heavy winds.

'We were desperately wondering where the money would come from to do this work and it was lovely when the county council and UCTC put their hands in their pockets to do the east side. This created a precedent for guys on the west side to volunteer to do the same,' said Mr Benians.

The work would thin out the canopy and make the trees safer in the event of a storm, he added.
