Award for Worthing charity Guild Care's volunteers

LONG-SERVING staff from older people's charity Guild Care have been recognised for their hard work.

Three employees received long-service prizes at the Celebrating Our Achievements Awards.

At the same time, a host of other accolades were handed out at the charity's Healthy Living Centre in North Street, Worthing.

Meanwhile, the Healthy Living Centre received the team-award for its vital work with older people, people with dementia and carers.

Other awards were presented for special achievements in training, manual handling, health and safety, as well as personal development.

Robert Dean, Guild Care trustee, said: "It has been wonderful to see so many people achieving so much and in so many different areas of the charity.

"I believe that Guild Care is a very special organisation and that it is the kind of commitment that we have been celebrating this afternoon that makes it so special."

Toni Cocchiarella, who has worked at Ashmount Care Home in catering and as a domestic helper for more than 30 years.

Sheila Davis and Marta Hartill both started with the charity 20 years ago and now work at Linfield Care Home. Sheila is a chef and Marta now works part-time as a domestic helper.

Learner of the Year was Karen Lisher, who, in her own time, completed the Registered Manager's Award, which recently resulted in her promotion to acting manager at Irene House. She is currently taking an Institute of Leadership and Management course at Northbrook College.

Nick Durber, who undertook special training to provide better activities for residents at Irene House, got the individual award.
