Lorraine Harman, founder of the Baby Buddy charity, was one of 67 local winners of the Halifax Giving Extra Award, receiving £250 of vouchers.

Lorraine, of the Esplanade, Worthing, set up the charity after the birth of her son Diego in 2011.

Diego was born with Down’s Syndrome and Lorraine struggled to find the support she needed in the local community so decided to set up a charity to support families and carers with children up to 14 years old living with learning disabilities.

She was nominated for the award by her daughter Chelsea.

Lorraine said: “I am shocked; I was unaware that my daughter had nominated me. It’s lovely to have won an award and it’s a fantastic way to raise awareness of the charity. I want to make sure that there is the right support and advice available for all parents and carers of children with disabilities living in Worthing and surrounding areas.”

Jenni Falconer, awards ambassador and television and Heart presenter, added: “Lorraine truly deserves this recognition.”
