Awards for Bexhill's high-flying air cadets

SEVERAL Bexhill Air Cadets have recently secured a range of trophies, awards and promotions, reflecting success in sporting achievements through to support for local charitable organisations.

A presentation evening organised by Flight Lieutenant Andy Izzard, commanding officer of 2262 (Bexhill) Air Training Corps, was attended by more than 40 cadets and members of the Bexhill Royal Air Force Association.

Cadet Troy Parsons, aged 17, was awarded a silver plate for helping collect the most money for the RAFA Wings Appeal. Troy worked hard, giving up a Saturday to help with the street collections, and raised more than £130.

Three promotions to cadet sergeant were made, with Coral Martin, 16, and Karam Bharj and Ed Dermody-Laurance, both 17, putting up three stripes for their outstanding efforts and drive towards their personal development.

Their new rank will see them take on much more of a leadership role in supporting and guiding other cadets. Ed and Coral have also received certificates for their nomination as sportsman and sportswoman of the year (pictured).

The Air Training Corps is a voluntary youth organisation sponsored by the Royal Air Force.

Nationally there are more than 41,000 cadets aged between 13 and 20, supported by a further 10,000 volunteer staff.
