Back on the seafront at last

We're back!! Rox organisers and supporters gathered on Bognor Regis seafront on Tuesday to celebrate the music and art festival's return to its traditional home.

It's been six years since the last of the promenade spectaculars entertained tens of thousands of spectators with a mixture of sounds and sights.

But the long absence will be forgotten at 1pm on July 21 when the first chords of music ring out from the two stages on The Esplanade between West Street and Waterloo Square. The festival will last until 11pm that day and from 1pm to 9pm the next day.

Rox founder Steve Goodheart said it had taken hours of behind-the-scenes effort to get to the point where Rox2007 was about to happen as the opening event of the nine-day Sunfest musical extravaganza. 'We have had a lot of community support to get this far,' he explained. 'Without that, we couldn't put on Rox.

'It is costing about 25,000 '“ including 5,500 from Bognor Regis Town Council '“ for the two-day event and that takes a lot of raising.'

Among the principal backers are Butlins and the NJS scaffolding company. The University of Chichester is also new to the event. At least a further 30 backers, including the Observer, are also supporting the occasion.
