Bad weather halts first day of Bognor Birdman

Poor weather has cancelled the first day of the Bognor Birdman competition.

Barry Jones, chairman of International Bognor Birdman said: "After a conference with the fliers this morning we have decided that due to the weather we will have to cancel today's event.

"We can control a lot of things but unfortunately we are not powerful enough to control mother nature.

"The high winds mean that it would be unsafe for fliers to jump from the platform.

"The event will go ahead as planned tomorrow (Sunday) and we have told all of the Kingfisher fliers that there will be room for them tomorrow.

"The majority of other entertainment that was booked for today will go ahead in the Alexandra theatre, and we hope that people can enjoy it.

"Birdman will be back were it belongs in Bognor tomorrow, were we will have a bumper spectacle."
