Bad weather stops first day of Bognor Birdman

Poor weather has cancelled the first day of the 2011 International Bognor Birdman competition.

Barry Jones, chairman of International Bognor Birdman said rain and strong winds had forced them to cancel today’s (Saturday, July 16) events.

He said: “The high winds mean it would be unsafe for fliers to jump from the platform. We would love to be able to carry on in spite of the bad weather but safety comes first.

“The event will go ahead as planned tomorrow (Sunday, July 17) and we hope the majority of flyers due to take part today will be able join us then.”

The Birdmen are set to fly from Bognor Regis pier tomorrow from 12.45pm until 2.47pm, and entertainment will start from about 11am.
