Bag theft spree in Lewes - police warning

LEWES police have warned shoppers to be on their guard after a series of bag thefts in the Tesco and Waitrose supermarkets.

Three handbags were stolen from shopping trolleys in quick succession and the advice was for the public to be vigilant.

Sgt Daran Goudie, from the Lewes Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Shoppers do get targeted and it’s very important that valuable bags or those containing purses, credit cards and other personal belongings are kept in sight or better still, on your person.

“Don’t leave the bags open and don’t leave them unattended – thieves only need a second or two to commit their crime.”
