Bake-Off star judges cake competiton at school fete

A Horsham primary school welcomed one of the stars of The Great British Bake Off at their summer fete last Sunday (June 30).

Cat Dresser, who was a contestant in series three of the BBC show, was at Heron Way Primary School to judge their Cake Bake Off Challenge entered by more than 20 children and parents.

Children had to bake football themed cupcakes while the parents’ challenge was to create a classic Victoria sponge.

Before coming to her final decision, Cat,of Pease Pottage, looked for overall presentation coupled with a taste test.

The winners were Emily Orman, Class 6 and parent Danielle Lendon who each received a Heron Way Star Baker apron, with child runners up of Bianca Chamberlain, Maddy Pringle and Orla O’Neill and parents Julie Grover and Jinny Meeking.

Headteacher James Crump said: “I was astounded to see so many pupils and parents had taken the time to produce such top quality cakes; they are a true credit to the school.”

The fete, which had to rescheduled at the last minute due to Saturday’s inclement weather, raised £4,500 for the school.

It included more than 40 stalls and performances from Years 3 and 4, Heron Way singers and Inspire Academy of Dance.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue were also in attendance.
