Band is ready to entertain after winning competition

HOME-GROWN talent is about to appear alongside international stardom.

Mok, a band made up of Shoreham and Lancing musicians, have won a set at Brighton’s Shakedown festival on Saturday (October 6), after winning a stiffly-fought competition.

Rapper Lee Jones, 27, said: “It means everything to have this opportunity.

“It’s about getting exposure, and that is priceless to any band.”

There were two stages to the contest, said Lee, of Rosalind Road, Shoreham.

The first involved submitting a song and video, and, after being short-listed, the five-piece auditioned at The Coalition, Brighton, in front of three judges.

“It went really well,” said Lee, a former Kings Manor student, along with band mate, Joe Bailey.

“We listened to some of the other bands, and they were good, so we were a bit nervous.

“When we played, though, the judges loved it, and gave us some really good feedback.”

He went on to say it was hard to put Mok, who have toured with Stooshe and played at Shoreham’s Beach Dreams festival in June, into a genre category . “We play electro pop, but with elements of dub step and drum and bass,” he said.

Lee added he and his bandmates, including Gracey Croucher, Jack Hannon, Dex Barrow and Aaron Watts were looking forward to the gig.

“It’s like nothing we have ever done,” he told the Herald.
