Barclays Bank in Worthing gets major revamp

MP Sir Peter Bottomley gave his seal of approval along with an array of customers for the newly-refurbished Barclays Bank in Chapel Road.

Featuring innovative tills designed specifically without glass partitions, it has benefited from state-of-the-art cash machines offering assistance for those who are partially-sighted, plus a new open-planned layout.

As branch manager Matt Wiggett revealed, the new facilities have proved an additional boost for staff.

“Technology is giving us a freedom, flexibility and choice that enables us to improve on what a bank branch is,” said Mr Wiggett, who added: “This massive investment into the area has created one of the most stylish, efficient and technologically advanced branches in the county.

“The branch comes complete with the latest open tills which have no glass between the customer and staff and TAU’s (Teller Assisted Units) whereby the cashier does not even have to count the cash any longer as the machine dispenses the correct amount at the touch of a button.”

While some concerns have remained regarding the recent closure of Barclay’s in Broadwater, the company believed its updated facilities in Worthing had met with approval from customers across the area.

Worthing West MP Sir Peter said: “I think that it’s great to have seen what has been done here in one of my area’s banks, which is great for the customers and staff as well. I’m very happy to declare it open.”

Area manager Peter O’Shea, shared his optimism and believed the facilities were a great improvement on its previous set-up, which now includes expanded meeting rooms on its first floor.

The branch was launched with celebrations which included performance artistes and giveaways and an interactive ticket booth with a pair of Barclays Premier League tickets being given as the main prizes.

Skin cancer charity The Christie benefited from the launch.

Generous staff and customers raised £335, which the company matched for a total of £670 which will go to the cause.
