Barcombe

NO VILLAGE SHOP?: The future of Barcombe's general store is in doubt. A three-year bid to find a buyer has so far been unsuccessful: now, unless a way forward is found before the end of May, the shop will close. Barcombe Parish Council does not have the remit or expertise to run a business, and cannot buy the premises. Other villages kept a shop going and the parish council will use its contacts to tap into their experience. Meanwhile we would very much like to hear from anyone who has ideas or solutions. We believe that given a suitable legal framework, there is good likelihood of financial return for individuals willing to invest in a revitalised business. The shop's owner and I will be pleased to meet anyone able to invest or advise. Hopefully, by working together the community can keep its general store, post office and newspaper outlet.
