STOOLBALL: Four of our ladies were selected to play for Mid Division against North Division on Sunday, June 26, at Clayton, Janet Hughes, Susannah Maynard, Jen Lay and Angharad Hills. Mid won and now go on to the final against West Division. Also Alicia Colbourne was selected to play for Mid Juniors on the same day. Rain prevented play on June 28, but our home match on June 30 against Chiddingly resulted in Barcombe 171 for 2 (Susannah Maynard 65 no), Chiddingly 68 for 7.

THE RUDE MECHANICALS: The Rude Mechanicals are returning by popular request to Barcombe Village Hall on Thursday July 21 at 7.30pm. The commedia dell’arte group will be performing their new production, ‘A comedy thriller set among the birds’ on the lawn. Bring a seat and a picnic if you wish. CRICKET: ESCL Div 2 Chiddingly v Barcombe. Barcombe 241-4 dec in 46 overs: Paul Coppard 73, Matt Tucker 69, Josh Wheatley 53 no. Chiddingly 96-2 in 24 overs: Joe Wheatley 2-27. Match abandoned, rain, Chiddingly 9 points Barcombe 13 points.

PARISH COUNCIL: New housing in Barcombe, will you help? The parish council wishes to expand an existing Steering Group to develop last autumn’s housing survey into a Neighbourhood Plan. This will focus primarily on the mix, type and style of new housing in Barcombe Cross. The parish council believes that a formal Plan is needed: Lewes District Council has allocated the village a minimum of 30 new homes, to be built between now and 2030. The expanded Steering Group will advise the parish council and will be made up from the widest possible cross-section of parish inhabitants. Membership of the parish council is not necessary. The group will be guided by an experience planning consultant, and will require a chairman, secretary and finance officer. We are keen to hear from parish residents willing to help with this important project. At this stage commitment is not necessary, an informal meeting will be arranged to explain what will be involved.

WI: Barcombe WI meet on Tuesday at 7.30pm in the village hall. Building eye care services in the Amazon jungle, a talk by David Goldsmith, followed by refreshments. Visitors and new members welcome.

BOWLING CLUB: Barcombe played away to Lewes at the end of the month and unfortunately lost the game on all three rinks with the final score Lewes 71 Barcombe 47. The annual match against Newick for the Barwick Cup was played on Saturday July 3 at Newick. It was a very close and exciting match played on five rinks. Two games were drawn, one game won and the other lost. Newick won on the last game and end by two shots. The final score was Newick 85 Barcombe 83. As Barcombe were the holders, the cup was handed over to Newick. However Barcombe are keen to get it back next year.
