The Spinning Jenny Band was originally formed in 1996, from musicians who played for Folk music and Morris Dancing. During the years it has grown in number and is now a popular band with caller, covering Bexhill, Hastings, Eastbourne and surrounding area.

Dragonflies, which is based at the Fellowship of St Nicholas, provides life-changing support to children and young people aged five to 18 who’ve lost a parent, family member, friend or learnt that a someone close to them is dying.

Over half a million pounds of National Lottery funding has enabled Dragonflies to provide qualified staff and resources to support families. Staff acknowledge a child’s grief, and encourage them to talk about their feelings in a safe and friendly environment. In group therapeutic sessions they are empowered to express their thoughts and emotions through creative activities, such as emotional volcanoes and memory boxes.

Around six months ago, the project started helping with pre-bereavement. Children are able to attend sessions before their loved one dies, which helps prepare them for the grieving process.
