Battle Abbey dress up day

Battle Abbey Prep School's Key Stage 1 pupils became their favourite literary characters for a day to celebrate the book fair that was held at the school.

Both pupils and teachers dressed up in the costumes of book characters and this year there was a real mix of characters from an enormously diverse selection of books. As well as an array of Sleeping Beauties there was a Worst Witch, a King John, a Tiger who Came to Tea, and a splendid variety of other characters. The children had a fantastic day.

Ms. Jane Blau, Year 1 teacher, said, "Both children and staff came dressed up. We really try to encourage children to learn to love books and cultivate a love of reading from a very early age, and this is a fantastic way to get the children to engage with characters in the books they read. We had great fun guessing each other's characters and some of the children had been really inventive in the details they had focused on for their costume. The children really embraced dressing up and the atmosphere in school was absolutely fantastic."
