Battle Abbey Pupils Rethink Rubbish

The children at Battle Abbey School learned how problems with waste will affect the future of the planet.

The Rethink Rubbish team from East Sussex County Council visited the school to raise awareness of rubbish, recycling issues and the dangers facing generations to come.

Head teacher Jude Clark said: "The team used puppets, quizzes and activities to make the children aware of the extent of the waste we produce, and the problem that poses in landfill sites and greenhouse gases.

"On a positive note, the children learned that 80% of our waste can be effectively recycled or reused and the vital part they have to play. "Before the team left the children were each given a special Rethink Rubbish pencil '“ made from recycled video cassettes."
