Battle Choral Society

Tickets are on sale now for our performance of J.S. Bach’s magnificent Mass in B minor, one of the supreme achievements in the classical repertoire, on the 18th May at Christ Church, Silchester Road, St. Leonards.(TN37 6GL). The Mass was probably never performed during Bach’s life time, it largely disappeared during the 18th century and was ‘rediscovered’ in the early 19th century. Today this monumental work which, unusually, encompasses both the Lutheran and Roman Catholic traditions is acknowledged to be a musical mountain for any choir to climb but one that is totally rewarding for both singers and audience.

We are honoured that the Society’s President LOUISE WINTER, the renowned mezzo-soprano, will be singing with us. Louise has sung in opera houses across the world including Glyndebourne and The Royal Opera House and will be joined by Grace Constable, soprano, Gary Marriott, tenor and Michael White, bass. The 100 voice choir and professional orchestra will be conducted by our Director of Music, John Langridge. Tickets are £15 each, which includes a glass of wine or soft drink, from: Raggs Boutique, 20 High Street, Battle,Genius Loci Bookshop, 40 Norman Road, St. Leonards (Wed-Sat)or from 01424 870862 or 845219.
