Battle crime round-up

Here is this week's round-up of crimes committed in the Battle area.

A HANDBAG was stolen from a pub in Battle High Street on March 13.

The bag was left on a table with coats and other items when it was taken.

Police are checking CCTV and enquiries are continuing.

A WHITE Toyota Light Ace Campervan was stolen from Bishops Lane in Robertsbridge between 12.50pm-1.30am on March 14.

There were no witnesses to the theft and no CCTV footage available.

Earlier in the day a man had approached the owner of the vehicle to ask if the campervan was for sale or part exchange.

Police placed a stolen marker on the vehicle to notify other forces.

Later that day, Kent Police found the campervan in a river near Ashford after the vehicle hit a 12ft metal fence and ended up in the water.

The vehicle was recovered and the owner notified.

A THIEF bit off more than he could chew when he stole a rottweiler from a property in Battle.

The dog was taken from Marley Rise on March 14 after the thief leant over the fence and undid the bolt to steal the dog from the kennel.

Dog wardens were alerted and after a search of the area, the dog was sound safe and well, although exhausted and slightly injured.

It is believed the thief left the dog at the side of the road to fend for itself.

Dog and owner were happily reunited.

A LAWNMOWER was stolen from a shed in Brightling some time between March 8 and 11.

Thieves took the Husq Varna orange ride on mower after forcing the door of the building in Brightling Road.

SCRAP copper and cylinders worth an estimated 250 were taken from the rear of a property in Potmans Lane, Lunsford Cross, between 9.15-10.15am on March 15.

A neighbour reported seeing a blue vehicle with a male occupant wearing overalls.

Police enquiries are continuing.

A HANDBAG was stolen from a vehicle in Ashburnham some time between 12.30-5pm on March 12.

There was no sign of forced entry and police believe the vehicle was left insecure.

TWO empty caravans were broken into at London Road, Hurst Green earlier this month.

The first caravan was broken into between Match 11-13 and the second between March 14-15.

No damage was caused to the caravans and only a small number of items were stolen.

A PURSE was stolen from a handbag in Battle High Street between 6.30-8.30pm on March 15.

WOULD-BE thieves tried to break into a shed in Darvel Down in Netherfield in the early hours of March 19.

A garden fence was cut and the intruders removed the lock on the door to get into the shed, but nothing was stolen as the suspects were disturbed by the burglar alarm.

A VEHICLE was broken into at Beechwood Close in Burwash between 5.15pm-7.20am on March 19.

The rear doors on the vehicle were forced to gain entry, but nothing appeared to have been stolen.
