Battle man accused of Herstmonceux murder appears in court

The man accused of murdering a woman in Herstmonceux earlier this month has appeared in court today (Tuesday, March 29).

Gerald Ian ‘Gerry’ Palmer, of Powdermill Lane in Battle, appeared at Lewes Crown Court charged with the murder of 47-year-old Carrie Izzard at her West End home on Monday, March 21.

The 50-year-old was further remanded in custody to await a plea and case management hearing on Friday, June 10.

Ms Izzard was found dead at her home shortly after 11.30am on March 21. A post mortem examination revealed the cause of death as stab wounds to the neck.

Palmer was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, after being found with injuries on the same day.

Following treatment he was discharged from hospital but immediately arrested.
