Battle of Britain heros honoured

Rye and Northiam RAFA commemorated Battle of Britain Day on Sunday September 15 with a special service at St Mary’s Church, Rye led by Rev Joy Davenport.

She spoke of the sacrifice made by pilots and aircrew during a moving communion service.

Edwin Gibson read the Dedication and laid a wreath on behalf of all former member of the RAFA. The Rye Royal British Legion was represented by Colonel and Mrs Anthony Kimber, while Jo Maynard represented the former Rye RBL Women’s Section.

Much of the fierce fighting during the Battle of Britain took place in the skies above Rye and Romney Marsh. A walk through World War II Rye takes place on Saturday September 28 as part of Rye Festival, meeting at the Gun Gardens.
