Battle Town Council launched the campaign encouraging people to design a landmark for the roundabout at the top of the High Street.

It said a wide variety of ‘inspirational’ ideas had been put forward.

All of the entries will be on display in Battle Library for three weeks from Monday (July 20), and members of the public will be encouraged to vote for their favourite designs.

These votes will then help the town council draw up a short list, before a judging panel makes a final decision in August.

The lucky winner will receive a £250 prize, as well as the honour of seeing their design proudly welcoming visitors to the town for many years in the future.

David Furness, deputy mayor of Battle, said: “It’s been great to see such a fantastic response to the competition.

“We’re delighted to receive so many entries and particularly impressed with the quality and imagination of some of the designs.

“I’d encourage everyone to go and see the ideas in the library and vote for your favourites.”

The town council is planning to install the winning design during 2016 as part of the celebrations to commemorate the 950th anniversary of the world famous Battle of Hastings.

When the competition was launched, Cllr Furness said the landmark would eventually form part of an art trail for the town.
