For him it was a Turkey Surprise: without any turkey.

Guest speaker Celestine very dutifully consumed a caterpillar on her first visit to her mother-in-law’s, and still managed to complement her on the meal.

Charming toastmaster Eliza Davies introduced the various speakers and their roles, adding a freshness and a sparkle to the evening.

She quoted “rules are for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of fools”.

She was questioning whether health and safety had gone a bit too far.

Mark Mulcahy introduced some fun topics where speakers were invited without notice, to convince the audience that they were suited to a job, even though they had particular handicaps.

Guests Jenny, Kelham and Nicola all played a splendid role.

Nicola typing with only one finger said she might manage one letter in a day, employed as a secretary.

Ian Ellery managed to intensify the hilarity when he applied to be a ballet instructor by demonstrating his skills by prancing and pounding the stage to prove he could pivot.
