Battle Speakers Club

THURSDAY June 28 saw Mark Mulcahy’s last meeting as president of Battle Speakers Club.

He has guided the club through a terrific year and will formally hand the reins over to the incoming club president, Graham Gardner, at the next meeting.

In the meantime, however, it was ‘business as usual’.

Dorothy Margison was the toastmaster (or chairman) for a meeting which saw three prepared speeches.

These ranged from Rob Wright, a relative newcomer to the club (although not to presentation), delivering his second speech to the club, to Will Hirst whose task was to be persuasive, and lastly to the very experienced Dec Cluskey, who had an interpretive reading project to fulfil.

All received constructive feedback.

A lively topic session, with an Olympic theme, was chaired by Giles Robinson.

He, the participants in that session, and the evaluators themselves, received feedback from the general evaluator, Gordon Piggott.

Battle Speakers Club welcomes those who want to learn new communication skills, increase confidence, or simply have a fun evening out.
