The weather was good as hundreds of people came together to pay their respects to those who have killed, injured and suffered in war.

Battle Town Band kept rhythm for the column of veterans, dignitaries and youth organisations as they marched down the High Street to St Mary’s Church, in Upper Lake.

An Act of Remembrance took place conducted by The Very Reverend Dr John Edmondson, Dean of Battle after which the laying of wreaths was conducted around the memorial and a two minute silence was observed.

Cllr Richard Bye, Mayor of Battle, commented: “The church was absolutely packed. It was wonderful to see so many people prepared to remember the sacrifices made by some in order that we may enjoy the freedoms we have today.”
