Santa Claus rode into town on Friday night for the big Christmas lights switch-on, with carols around the tree outside Battle Abbey invoking that fuzzy festive feeling.

This was followed by the inaugural Elf Dash, with a sea of elf hats bobbing around the Abbey Green.

Santa returned to town on Saturday for his grand, if slightly soggy, parade down the High Street before taking up residence in his grotto in the Battle Memorial Hall, meeting two hundred excited children during the course of the afternoon.

Meanwhile parents looking for the perfect Christmas present were able to take their pick from the charity market taking place upstairs in the Wynne Room.

Refreshments were served by the Saxonwood WI in the Shepherd Room.

As Santa climbed back on his sleigh and waved Battle goodbye - until Christmas Eve that is - Lucy Ashton led everyone in a special goodnight carol under the town’s Christmas tree.
