Battle’s first ever soapbox race takes place this weekend
The races will kick off at midday and will see upwards of 15 imaginatively decorated soapbox racers taking up their place on the starting line, ready to tear up the High Street in a bid to be crowned champion.
Teams from as far away as Ashford are taking part in the event, including pub teams and a team of firefighters.

The event has been organised by local businessman Dale Cromwell.
Dale said: “It’s not long now, only a few days until Sunday and Battle’s first Soapbox Race.
“The entries have come in, with more coming in even now, so if you think you can build one before Sunday at 11am then get on it!

“When the High Street shuts at 12, the races will begin.
“With heats and then a final of the fastest carts towards the end, after 2pm when the road re-opens we will have a prize-giving down on the Green outside the Abbey Gatehouse.
“It’s set to be a great day for all involved so be sure not to miss this awesome event!”
All times are approximate.
The event will raise funds for the Battel Bonfire Boyes.
