Bay water sparkles

SEA water in Seaford Bay was rated Excellent by the Environment Agency on 19 out of 20 occasions during the spring and summer months.

Every week from May 7 until September 16 water samples were taken and checked for bacteria. On only one occasion in May did the level fall as low as a Good rating.

Seaford Town Council clerk Len Fisher said the results bode well for the town's 2003 bid for the Tidy Britain clean beach and water flag.

He said: 'We are delighted with the results which send a clear message to residents and visitors that seawater at Seaford is safe and clean to bathe in.'
