BBB 10K run

If you're fit or mad enough there's still time to enter the Battel Bonfire Boyes' fundraising 10K run on Sunday September 6.

Up to 500 runners could take part in the event which starts at 10am near Battle Abbey Green. They will head out to Powdermill Lane and run a circular route to Battle Road and North Trade Road and back down the High Street to the Abbey Green.

A road closure will be in force for the first part of the race up until the last runner passes Horns Corner.

The event was last held as a Fun Run some fifteen years ago and the Bonfire Boyes have decided to reintroduce it as part of their annual fundraising campaign. The event is open to 500 competitors with a minimum age limit on the day of 15. The cost of entry is 11.50 per person.

The event is being run in accordance with the UK Athletics Association rules and will be a timed event with medals and "goody" bags for all competitors completing the course. Cups, the majority of which can be retained, will also be awarded to various age classes. There will also be a cup awarded to the best fancy dressed competitor to help try and keep the "fun" element of the original Run and a cup for the person who raises the most sponsorship money for the Battel Bonfire Boyes..

Competitors will be encouraged to run for sponsorship for whatever worthy cause they feel deserves a donation and the Battel Bonfire Boyes will themselves be awarding a cup for the competitor who completes the course and raises the most money for The Battel Bonfire Society.

The organisers are pleased to announce that the main sponsors of the event is Littlewood Fencing Ltd of North Trade Road, Battle and that cups that will be awarded are being sponsored by local businesses and to date include Abbeygate, Alan Hunting Associates, Rush Witt & Wilson and Fancy Pants, all from Battle and The Ridge West Garage from St Leonards-on-Sea. Farrago are sponsoring the clock hire and Tesco Express will be supplying the Drinks Stations with the assistance of 1st Battle Scout Group. Crowhurst Park have also offered to assist in sponsorship. Both The Ridge West Garage and Rambler Coaches, both from Hastings have both kindly offered the use of a vehicle for use on the Green on the day of the Run. Promotional posters and application forms are being sponsored by itchyonline websites & design.

All profits from the event will go towards the 12,000 needed for the Battel Bonfire Boyes to stage this years Battle Bonfire Celebrations which will this year be, on Saturday November 7.

Anyone wishing to enter the Run should complete an entry form which can be downloaded from www.bbb10k.co.uk and send it to bbb10k, Battel Bonfire Boyes, PO Box 143, Battle TN33 0HH. Entry can also be registered on-line.
