bbb10k to be ‘the busiest in years’

BATTEL Bonfire Boyes are preparing for what is set to be the busiest bbb10k race to date.

Entries are up on previous years and hundreds of runners are expected to take their place on the starting line on Sunday.

The annual 10k race, which the Boyes have organised since 2009, has grown to become one of the most popular 10k runs in the area with the course being suitable for both fun and serious runners.

Prior to the 10k is the junior race for those aged 11-15 which takes place at 9.30am in the High Street.

Runners receive great support from spectators who line the route and near the finish line on the Abbey Green the Bonfire Boyes provide a barbecue and refreshments for those waiting for the runners to return.

Matt Southam, BBB spokesperson, said: “The 10k is another great event in Battle’s calendar and there will be plenty of runners taking part to raise money for their own chosen charity so while BBB organises the event as a fundraiser lots of other charities benefit from it too.

“Even if you are not the running type, I would encourage spectators to make their way to the High Street to cheer on the runners and soak up the atmosphere.”

A road closure will operate in the High Street between 9.20-9.40am and again between 9.50-10.15am with stop and go boards from 10.30-11.15am. Powdermill Lane will be closed from 10-10.45am.

There is still time to enter the race.

Entries can be made online at www.bbb10k.co.uk or on the day of the race at the registration desk on the Abbey Green from 8.30am.
