Beach Dreams a success

BEACH Dreams - the most colourful spectacle on the south coast - lit up Shoreham Beach this weekend with an Egyptian themed procession, music and much more besides!

Thousands of people descended on Beach Green to see two processions converge on Beach Green and children's television presenter Dave Benson Phillips emerge from a sarcophagus to entertain the crowd.

The theme of this year's event was the Nile and there was also an Egyptian style obelisk near the stage.

The award winning Beach Bateria Band's musicians and dancers performed around a giant pyramid in the centre of the green, before local bands took to the stage and continued playing into the evening. Saturday's programme finished with a firework display.

For the first time there was also a skateboard ramp, which had been organised by the website www.shorehambysea.com.

Pete Farrington, from the website, said it had been paid for by donations from Peter Monk at Wall Ties and Repointing and Paul Harvey at Western Road Garage.

The Beach Dreams festival continued on Sunday with a church service in the morning and more music and entertainment in the afternoon.

Two rock legends put in appearances at Beach Dreams on Sunday. Keith Emerson, from the 1970s progressive rock outfit Emerson, Lake and Palmer was seen in the festival marquee and heavy rock/blues guitarist Gary Moore and spotted onboard the Fische houseboat on the Riverbank.

Gary was recognised by Polly Cole at their award-winning exhibition on the history of the houseboats, who told the Herald: "He was quite shy and I didn't want to embarrass him, but I did get him to sign our visitors' book."
