Beach hut blaze

Six beach huts were ruined in a fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Several were competely destroyed in the blaze which started around 1.30am in the row of beach huts next to Bexhill Sailing club and was put out by a crew from Bexhill community fire station.

Three youths were arrested 20 minutes after the incident was reported and this week were helping Sussex Police with their inquiries.

The huts are privately owned but rented out from The Old Bathing Station hut which also sells icecream and refreshments.

Rosemary Hyde, who has owned a beach hut on the same stretch for eight years, commented: "We have had vandals before now, but never this. One hut has been burned at the other end but we have never had this down here before. It is horrible. They have all been burned, all the sun chairs and everything."
