Firefighters rushed to reports the chalet, at Holywell, was ablaze at about 2.30am on Wednesday morning (June 26).

According to East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, crews used a hose reel jet and 1 in 7 foam to extinguish the flames.

An Eastbourne Borough Council spokesperson confirmed one hut had been gutted and another damaged in the blaze, which is being treated by police as suspected arson.

Witness Jake Simmons said, “It just so happened that me and seven friends were on a night walk around Holywell when we spotted the fire which turned out to be one of the huts on fire, so we called the emergency services and they came and dealt with the fire very quickly and effectively.”

This comes after 19 beach huts were burned down in a suspected arson attack, also at Holywell, last April (2018).

Police launched an investigation into the blaze alongside the fire service, but no one was ever convicted. New chalets were unveiled in their place earlier this year.
