Beacons to be lit across the area to mark Queen's 90th

Beacons across the district will be lit as a mark to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen's 90th birthday on Thursday (April 21).

The Mayor of Peacehaven Councillor Robert Robertson will be lighting Peacehaven’s Beacon at the Dell at 8.30pm. There will not be an event attached to the evening but residents are welcome to attend the lightening to mark the Queen’s 90th Birthday.

The beacon in the Swan Meadow Playing Field, Ham Lane, Burwash will also be lit at 8.30pm to unite the nation in common celebration of this important milestone in The Queen’s life.

Heathfield and Waldron Parish Council invite residents to join them for the ceremonial lighting of the Beacon in Cade Street from 6.45pm. The Beacon will be lit promptly at 7.30pm by Order of the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Mrs. Angela Sellick.

There will be a fancy dress competition for the children with a theme of red, white and blue. Food and soft drinks will be available to buy.

A beacon will also be lit at Ditchling Beacon at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend but parking is limited.

The Queen’s official birthday is on Saturday, June 11, and will be marked with the traditional Trooping of the Colour.
