Two volunteers, who run the Brownies have now stepped in to re-launch the Guides due to concerns that youngsters had nowhere to go on to when they became too old for Brownies.

They have been given a welcome boost by Rye and Winchelsea Rotary Club, which has donated £200.

Chris Fairman, chairman of the Rotary Club’s Youth Committee said: “It is really good news.

“Two first class young women have come forward and taken on the task of rebuilding the Company.

“They are well qualified for the job as they already run the Brownies and have built up the pack to a very creditable 25 members.

“It was of great concern to them that when the Brownies reach Guide age there was no Guide Company for them to move on to and they would be lost the movement.

“Additional leaders could not be found so they took on the task themselves.

“That quality of commitment is the backbone of the Scout and Guide movements and they are to be congratulated for it.

“Rye and Winchelsea Rotary Club has a long history of supporting Scouting in the area so when we heard of the new Guide Company and that it had opened with no financial support we were happy to assist by making a donation to the funds.”

The Rotary Club has a serious interest in supporting voluntary youth organisations in the Rye and Winchelsea area so if you are involved in such an organisation and you feel Rotary may be able to assist you then contact Chris Fairman, Youth Service Chairman at [email protected].
