Become a Samaritan

HASTINGS and Rother branch of the Samaritans is holding an open evening at its premises in St Andrews Square, Hastings, on Monday (7.30pm)

The organisation exists to support the suicidal, isolated and despairing, and provides a vital service for people in crisis by offering confidential and emotional support 24 hours a day.

This is entirely dependent on voluntary support and new volunteers are always needed.

Melanie from the Samaritans said: "Volunteers come from every walk of life but all have one important thing in common - they have time and ability to put the caller first and allow them time and space to explore their feelings and begin to work their way forward.

"You don't need qualifications or experience - just to be non-judgemental, open minded and aged over 17. We provide the training you need to equip you for your role.

"It is a challenging experience that can be very rewarding, knowing that you may have made a difference.

"Please come if you want to find out more about us and take the opportunity to meet us for a no-obligation chat."
