Bersted councillor steps down after 25 years

A FINAL farewell has been given by a councillor for Bersted after serving the parish for 25 years.

Sylvia Olliver attended her last parish council meeting on Tuesday a quarter of a century following her election in 1986.

She was presented with an engraved glass bowl and a bouquet by council chairman Brian Knight before the meeting started.

Mr Knight said: “Thank you for all you have done for the parish in the past 25 years.

“I am sure councillors will join me in wishing you a happy future.”

Mrs Olliver said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to have been on Bersted Parish Council.

“We have worked together and worked our socks off the area.

“Long may North Bersted prosper and long may it fight the good fight.”

Mrs Olliver served on the parish council until 2007.

She has continued to represent the area on Arun District Council from which she stands down at the May 5 elections.
